E.ON Ruhrgas has a highly sophisticated, efficient and complex gas storage and pipeline system which is a crucial and central part of the European gas transmission grid. To ensure secure long-term supplies of gas, it is necessary to continually adapt the technical conditions to rising demand. To ensure that the right amount of gas gets to the right customer at the right time, we operate a technical system consisting of pipelines, underground storage facilities and compressor stations working in unison. Our gas pipeline system covers a total length of 11,405 km.
The compressors provide the gas pressure needed to maintain a constant flow. The power installed of the 28 compressor stations managed by E.ON Ruhrgas is 907 MW. Storage facilities help to meet peak demand during the cold winter months and optimise gas supplies. All the gas flows are monitored from a central control room.
