E.ON Ruhrgas has an excellent supply portfolio as regards volumes, contract terms and diversification. Some 13,500 billion kWh of gas have already been contracted. Some of these contracts run until 2036.
Currently, we receive our gas from indigenous sources as well as producers in Norway, Russia, the Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
Long-term contracts will remain the backbone of gas supply in future providing a mechanism for fair risk-sharing between producers and importers. At the same time, the competitive, market-based pricing system allows a flexible response to market changes.
We provide our affiliates in Slovakia and the Baltic States and in particular our subsidiaries in Romania and Hungary with help and support in their gas procurement activities.
In 2006, the gas output of the Pan-European Gas market unit was up more than 50 percent on the previous year at 725 million m³. This sharp rise is due to our upstream business segment which we intend to further expand with activities in the United Kingdom, Norway and Russia.
A future option for Europe's supply security is liquefied natural gas, LNG. By using LNG, we are also opening up new supply sources for Europe. We are currently planning a terminal in Wilhelmshaven and are involved in a feasibility study for the construction of a terminal on the Croatian island of Krk. We have also signed a basic agreement on the construction of a new LNG terminal for the location of Le Havre. Furthermore, we have already booked capacities of approx. 1.7 billion m³ per year for the regasification of LNG at the British LNG receiving terminal on the Isle of Grain. We are thus actively shaping the future of gas supply in Europe.
